About

Hiya

I am Chenyuan, a UX designer based in Calgary, AB. Ever since childhood, I was told that I was too sensitive “for a dude”. I guess that’s why I can become a UX designer: sensitive enough to feel the pain of people who struggle with current tech offerings because of poor designs.

A great Chinese writer Lu Xun (鲁迅) once said “Our individual joy and misery cannot really be shared. I just find them annoying and too loud” (人类的悲欢并不相通,我只觉得吵闹). But I believe empathy can bring us closer, to an extent that even though we cannot 100% feel what others feel, we can still support each other, acknowledge the pain and find ways to smooth the misery along our journey. To make people feel better, that’s what keeps me motivated about my job.

Things that I absolutely hate

  • Touchscreens on cars

  • Smartphones the size of my head

  • Apps from Microsoft

Something personal about me

In spare time, I like to experiment different recipes in the kitchen. Occasionally you would hear me playing Ed Sheeran on my acoustic guitar.

I am a freelance portrait photographer. You can check my Instagram here
